# Links and link health

Every link buyers can open is checked: spot links and map pills, place websites and booking pages, route sources, the source links of statuses, fees and hours, and area links. New links are checked shortly after a write, and every link is checked again about weekly.

## Check and read

1. [check_links](https://developers.sceniq.earth/reference/check_links.md) queues checks for links never checked or not checked in a day. Pass `urls` for exactly those links (at most 40), or `all: true` for every link. It is limited to 12 calls per guide per hour.
2. A minute or two later, [get_link_report](https://developers.sceniq.earth/reference/get_link_report.md) returns every link with its state and where it is used.

## The states

| State | Means | Do |
|---|---|---|
| `ok` | The page answered. | Nothing. |
| `redirected` | It ends on another domain. | Check where it lands; update the link. |
| `unverifiable` | The site turns scripts away (a bot wall, 403, 429, a timeout). Not an error. | Open it in a real browser; confirm it with [set_link_verified](https://developers.sceniq.earth/reference/set_link_verified.md). |
| `broken` | No DNS, refused, 404. | Replace or remove it. |
| `suspicious` | Parked, suspended, gambling spam or a soft 404. | Replace it. |
| `tls` | A certificate problem. | Replace it or ask the site's owner. |
| `unchecked` | Not checked yet. | Wait, or [check_links](https://developers.sceniq.earth/reference/check_links.md). |

`flagged` is true for broken, suspicious, tls and redirected links nobody confirmed by hand. Readiness and [get_publish_status](https://developers.sceniq.earth/reference/get_publish_status.md) warn about flagged links; they never block a publish.

## Confirming by hand

Official sites often wall off scripts. After the creator (or you, in a real browser) opened the page, [set_link_verified](https://developers.sceniq.earth/reference/set_link_verified.md) records the day and how; readiness stops flagging it for 180 days. `clear: true` removes the record.
